Experts in the field define chronic absenteeism as missing 10 percent or more of school days and severe chronic absenteeism as missing 20 percent or more of school days, including excused, unexcused and discipline-related absences. Oregon is consistently in the bottom 20 percent of states when it comes to chronic absences. This group analyzes how the relationships between absent students and teachers affects learning, as well as the communities that are most affected by chronic absenteeism.
