Laboratory replication of biological materials is at the forefront of research and development in the medical community. In orthopedic medicine, the reconstruction and healing of damaged bone is often facilitated using metal implants, screws, or carbon fiber mesh. This research uses calcium hydroxyapatite (a biocompatible and osteoconductive calcium phosphate salt) as a promising candidate for 3D printing applications as replica bone material for custom orthopedic implants/replacements.
