Oxidative stress is a physiological process caused by the accumulation of free radicals which can be promoted by reactions with heavy metals such as zinc or copper. The purpose of this study was to determine whether copper and sleep deprivation has a significant effect on oxidative stress and neurologic function in Drosophila melanogaster. Our findings confirm previous research and may help future studies provide a link between sleep disorders and Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Diseases.
