Methamphetamine is an illegal drug that can easily lead to an overdose, and in Oregon alone the overdose rates have almost tripled in the last decade. To identify meth in a lab, instrumental techniques are used. Raman spectroscopy is a newer instrumental technique that is more reliable and non-destructive, compared to other instruments. How meth is detected using Raman is determined looking at multiple methods, including SERS.
