A molecular biology lab research capstone focused on investigating the genetic resistance of Western White Pine (Pinus monticola) and Whitebark Pine (Pinus albicaulis) to the pathogen White pine blister rust (Cronartium ribicola). DNA from these two species were extracted, purified, amplified, cloned, and analyzed for genetic indicators of resistance. Conclusions will supplement the current understanding regarding the prevalent and devastating effects of the blister rust pathogen.
